The Call of Zulina: Grace in Africa Series #1, (Paperback)

The daughter of slave traders helps lead a revolt against injustice. West Africa, 1787. Grace Winslow is the daughter of an English sea captain and an African princess, and all her life she has been sheltered from the truth of the family business: the capture and trade of slaves. The Call of Zulina opens the Grace in Africa series, Christian historical fiction about the moment a sheltered young woman is forced to see her family's trade for what it is. As the scorching harmattan winds blow, Grace flees the family compound to escape marriage to an odious suitor and runs straight into a slave revolt at the fortress of Zulina. Held for ransom, viciously maimed by a runaway slave, and threatened with death, she is jerked into reality and comes to grasp the brutality and ferocity of the trade her family runs. Where she once stood apart from the captives, she begins to admire their strength and courage, and she is moved by the African Cabeto's passion, determination, and willingness to sacrifice anything, even his own life, for his people's freedom. The Call of Zulina begins a three-part historical saga of slavery and freedom that carries readers from Africa to the Americas. Kay Marshall Strom is an established Christian fiction author whose other works include the Blessings in India series.
