Some things arrive already knowing what they are. This Wedgwood Blue Jasperware decorative plate, dated 1959 and made in England, is one of them — composed, classical, completely itself.
The white relief decoration features Aurora, Goddess of the Dawn — daughter of the Titan Hyperion, here driving her chariot pulled by two horses. The border is adorned with grape clusters and trailing vines, a hallmark of Wedgwood's neoclassical tradition. The powdery blue remains the most coveted of all Jasperware colorways.
Collectors display these as trinket dishes, shelf accents, or grouped in small wall galleries — each one a cameo in ceramic form.
