Salix gracilistyla 'Mt. Asama'
These plants are a real treat for florists in Japan – 'Mt. Asama' Pussy Willow boasts pink-tinged buds that unfurl two-toned, dark burgundy and silver then age to black-silver. Named after Mt. Asama volcano, it's got bigger catkins than S. caprea – study shows it's really a variety of S. gracilistyla, also known as 'Mt. Aso'. Nothing ushers in spring better than Pussy Willows -- their bright catkins unfurl with the first warm days, providing much-needed nutritious pollen & nectar to our pollinating pals weakened from winter. Temperate Asia-native Pussy Willows make easy-care landscape shrubs – prune 'em after flowering & they'll be good-as-new the next go-round! Pink Pussy Willow (Salix chaenomeloides 'Mt Asama') catkins open a light pink
